As a destination wedding photographer in Tuscany, every event brings new stories and unexpected moments. This time, I was ready for a unique wedding celebration starting in the historic town of San Gimignano and ending among the rolling hills at Country Relais Le Capanne, a charming venue run by an Italian-American couple, Vera and Dario.
The day began with anticipation. The weather had held until just minutes before the ceremony. Agnes, radiant and ready with her bouquet in hand, stood by the large windows as a real storm unleashed outside. Rain battered the glass, the wind bent the olive trees nearly horizontal, and the pool rippled under the force of the gusts, all against the backdrop of the immense Tuscan hills.
Overcoming the storm
Despite the weather, Agnes remained the most optimistic among us. We got into the car, determined to reach Robert, who was waiting at the church in San Gimignano.
The drive was tense. Rain poured heavily, and at one point a fallen tree blocked our path, forcing us to find an alternative route. The curves between the vibrant vineyards, under a dark, pitch-colored sky, were slippery and challenging. In the distance, the iconic towers of San Gimignano emerged, and among the streets crowded with determined tourists, Robert awaited.
A stroke of luck
Arriving in the pedestrian area, distracted by the rush of pre-ceremony emotions, we barely noticed—the rain had stopped! Agnes could step out of the car and walk to the church, accompanied by her proud father.
Luck was clearly on our side.
A warm and unforgettable evening
The evening transformed into a warm August night painted with the colors of a stunning sunset. Dinner and celebrations took place at Country Relais Le Capanne, surrounded by vineyards and olive trees, under a calm and unforgettable Tuscan sky.
Capturing weddings like Agnes and Robert’s, with all their unexpected twists and authentic emotions, is what makes my work as a destination wedding photographer in Tuscany so rewarding.
